Creating expressive kids photography with these sweet big kids and their wonderful parents has been something I look forward to each Fall. 

Heather’s family has become so dear to me over the last four years we have been making family portraits together.  Each year, something changes a little bit with them – last year, they brought along an adorable, snuggly puppy!!  And this year, the kids were excited even before the session, and ready to be the stars in their portraits!  And they rocked it!!  

I swear that becoming a mother a couple of years ago changed the way that I create kids photography.  Some things are the same – I have always tried to let the kids lead the session with just gentle guidance, always inspired by them and their freedom of movement.  But, some things are different for me as an experience, and also thus as a resulting portrait.  The stance that dad takes here with his daughter – so strong, so protective, and she with him – so safe with her dad.  These things are maybe subtle in the image, but so powerful for me as a mother.   

They are used to me photographing them – so they are creative while we are shooting, offering their own beautiful ideas for what kind of pictures they want to be in.  They found the painted bicycle towards the end of our session on their own.  I did so little to pose them, really I just let them show me what ever they want, find the good light and a variety of things that we can talk about.  They are just so expressive on their own.  

Atlanta portrait photographer Jessica Lily was formally trained in fine arts & photography.  Her kids photography, commercial and family portrait images tell a story and they are easy and fun to be a part of.
